The first step

Updated: Apr 6, 2023

I said the first step was to choose if you believe in a Higher Power or not.

Since you're here, I guess you do believe there's a greater force in Life.

So then, the real first step would be to choose what this Being is.

It sounds simplistic, right? Everybody knows what It is!

No.

Or, actually, there's a lot of confusion around it. A lot of questions. A lot of indecision.

The thing is, YOU are the one who has to bring clarity to the matter: it's going to be what YOU believe to be true that will be: that you choose to see life as if God was mean and angry, or if you choose to see it as if God was loving and abondant, you'll be right. There's enough on Earth to reinforce your belief, whatever it is (free-will, remember?!).

Even more than that: what you choose to believe about God will also shape who you are, since you decided you believe in It.

Will you be the same person if you believe that It is prompt to punish you as you'd be if you think It's understanding and forgiving?

Of course not!

Why?

Because we want to align with It, we want It to be proud of us and to love us. And in some childish way, we believe we have to do/be what It wants us to be in order to be loved.

So, if we believe It might punish us for our mistakes, we'll be careful to not make any. We'll play by the rules (what rules? created by whom? for who?). We'll stay in the lines, we'll make sure to not upset It.
If we believe It is understanding and forgiving, add supportive, we'll try new things, we'll explore life, we'll take risks, knowing God is with us. That we are loved, no matter what.

Your beliefs about It will shape who you are and your destiny: what you do today will affect the rest of your life. The choices you make, repeatedly, will make who you'll become. Do you want to stay in the lines and not make waves, or take risks and be who you truly are? You'll not end up having the same life depending on this choice.

Why not take a few minutes to write down what you think/feel about It?
Don't stop yourself from writing some negative stuff: you need to access even those thoughts in order to gain clarity about what you conceive God to be... It won't be offended, don't worry! It already knows about them ;)

But YOU, you'll want to work on those.

They are part of the gap between who you are and who you want to be. They are the ghosts that tourment you, that you can only let go by acknowledging and banishing.

You can do this.

You are Loved.
